‘And this I also say: you are our captain and our banner. The Dark Lord has Nine. But we have One, mightier than they. . . .’ A LotRO News and Review Blog.
Turbine just announced a summer festival witch will run from June 20 to July 10. Finlay we get a chance to see a server wide event that runs for two weeks with special treats like;
Turbine is about to open up the Lorebook so everyone may participate in adding information. The Lorebook offers a great source for finding in game information. Now be warned, there might be spoilers so use at your own risk if you wish to discover everything yourself. But if you desperately want information on an item or quest, then this is the place to go.

Last night after my wife and I started a few of the quests in Evendim we decided to hit the fields and give farming a try again. We had a great time. The new changes make it enjoyable and desirable.
My Lore Master is a Yeoman. I was able to grow and cook up some tasty things that allowed us to have some pretty nice buffs while we quested. My wife is a scholar. Before the expansion she did not find much joy in farming, however half way through her 4th field of blueberries I heard her say that she enjoyed this and could not wait for me to make the Blueberry muffins. That one comment brought a smile to my face and told me that Turbine is getting it right.
As we finished our couple of hours farming and cooking, we headed back out. I prompted her to turn on her new crop tracker and before long I was nearly nocked out of my chair when I heard a squeal of glee from her computer area. “I can track Woad Plants!, I can track Woad!” No more passing up the ingredients for the dye’s she can make.
You might get through them during the 7hrs of server down time today. Having read every word myself, I’ll just say that we’re in for some major changes. Time to start the 500mb download!
Tolkien states in the prologue to ‘The Lord of the Rings’, it would be fruitless to look for geographical correspondences, as “Those days, the Third Age of Middle-earth, are now long past, and the shape of all lands has been changed…”. Yet Peter Bird, Professor of Geophysics and Geology at UCLA, has attempted just that in this overlapped the map of Middle-earth with one of Europe.
Tolkien didn’t create Middle-earth ex nihilo: ancient Germanic myths divide the Universe in nine worlds, inhabited by elves, dwarves, giants, etc. The world of men is the one in the middle, called Midgard, Middenheim or Middle-earth. That term doesn’t thus describe the entirety of the world Tolkien thought up. The correct term for the total world is Arda – probably derived from German Erde (’Earth’) and only first mentioned posthumously in the Silmarillion (1977); and Eä (for the whole Universe).
Today, Turbine announced that June 13th will be the release date for The Shores of Evendim -the next big update to the LoTRO universe. Read all about it here:
Brendon Lindsey of GamerNode.com posts an interview with Jeff Anderson, CEO of Turbine Inc. They discuss LOTRO, the current MMO market, and much more. I really enjoyed reading through the interview because it was more like a casual conversation rather than a scripted interview with a set of predefined questions. I also enjoyed hearing more about Jeff Anderson as a person than just as Turbine’s CEO. So make sure to add this to your list of recommended articles to read for today. I also want to thank TenTonHammer for posting a link to this interview!
Following are some highlights from the article that I found interesting, exciting, and Jeff’s pet peeve regarding Blizzard’s endgame! Continue Reading »
When I first installed LotRO and started to study all the new aspects of the game one of the things that excited me was the concept of farming. Then I tried it. To say the least I was disappointed. You mean all I can grow is pipe weed and a few veggies that are sort of useless to a cook?
I live in Northern California a very lage agricultural area. And do you know what we do with the produce we produce? We cook and eat it. With the Shores of Evendim on the horizon I decided to check out the test server Roheryn to see just how many changes have been made.
After creating my test character a leveling to 30 I grabbed the Yeomen profession and instant leveled it using the quests in the Eyes and Guard Inn. Then I hit the fields. Continue Reading »
