13 May 2009Holy cow. One blog posts a link to screen shots with a survey and half the blog world related to MMO’s and LotRO lose all credibility in regards to reporting and checking facts.
A point of clarity from Sapiance

Not so fast! Our market research team asks a lot of questions via surveys. While it’s kind of fun to guess about what this surveys mean, the content of the survey doesn’t reflect our actual plans. Survey information gets fed into the big old planning machine here and helps inform future decisions on any number of subjects.
Will there ever be a version of LOTRO for the console?
Magic eight ball says: Future Hazy.
I wont even go into the many many issues with putting a complex UI that LotRO has into a console, so let’s just all sit back, take a breath and stop with the rumor mill bait.
Thanks

I’ve said this elsewhere, but I’ve really not seen any blogs or news sites reporting this as dead on fact as much as it was just a response to the information Gamedaily got its hands on.
I think its fair to respond to the survey, even as something built completely on hypothetical questions. In that sense I don’t think there was any “misinformation” per se, as I’ve not come across anyone stating this was any sort of official confirmation as much as it was, at best, a “rumor”… And even in that case, a rumor that already existed and was being given new ammo through this survey.
Everything I read assumed it was market research, even Gamedaily. I don’t think Sapience’s input on it really changes anything. In fact, the place I think went farthest with it was the LotRO forums lol. And even that got a lot of posts before Sapience bothered to comment on it in the first place.
What can you do, I guess :).
