“A chance for the Captain to show his true quality” - Traits of a good Captain
Apr 20th, 2007 by Stryker
Hello fellow Captains and other welcomed readers! My name is Stryker, and I’d like to thank Ealdor very much for making me an author here.
I would like to give a little insight on Traits. My inspiration to really research traits came as I was thinking of what I should do while sitting at level 15 for a few weeks, and I was running around collecting every trait and killing uncountable enemies. I created an alt that I really liked, and I thought… I don’t want to do all those Deeds again! So I decided to research which traits would benefit my characters the most. Here’s are my votes for the best traits you could have as a Captain.
The Captain is the hybrid, buffer class, so really the stats you go for depend on your style of play. Do you tank/DPS a lot? You probably want Morale, Might, Agility, and Melee Vulnerability. Do you do a lot of healing and use up your power? Then you need Power, Fate, and Will. The following our my best picks for traits. Your job is to figure out which of the stats are important to your style of play, and mix and match them to get exactly what you want. The higher you level, the more of these you can choose, and by level 23 you can choose five of these ten. Go to http://www.lotro-wiki.com/index.php/traits to learn how to obtain them.
Confidence: Will, Power regen out of combat, and Fear resistance (Will relates to your max power, and power regen out of combat, so this trait will really help those who run out of Power fast!!)
Determination: Max Morale, Morale regen in combat, Agility
Discipline: Disease Resisitance, Melee Vulnerability, Might
Fidelity: Adds to Max Power, Shadow Mitigation, and Vitality
Idealism: Fear Resistance, Will and Fate
Justice: Max Morale, Morale regen in AND out of combat
Loyalty: Max Power, Armor Bonus, and Vitality
Tolerance: Magic Vulnerability, Morale regen in combat, Agility
Valour: Adds to Max Morale, Morale regeneration out of combat, and Might.
Wisdom: Will, Wound resistance, and Power regen out of combat (Thanks gnarlyhotep!)
My Captain mostly plays as a healer, and I want to always be able to out-live my opponents and be able to keep my Fellows alive, so Morale and Power to use my abilities are the most important to me. Therefore, my picks for the best traits for a Captain are Valour, Idealism, and Loyalty, and at 17 I’ll go with Justice.

You forgot to mention Wisdom as an applicable trait. Adds Will, Wound Resistance and Power Regen out of combat. I find that having it slotted (2) at 17 helps reduce downtime significantly, and also helps in harder/longer fights with the boost to overall power from the Will bonus.
Thanks gnarlyhotep! That really helps. I’ll add it to the list!
Gah, it’s power regen, not morale, my mistake.
Also, for a healer build, I think it’d be a much better replacement for Valor. While the extra morale is nice for when you get healer-aggro, I think the power consumption is a more key factor for this class.
